Everyone knows that cheetahs are the fastest land animal on earth. However- did you know it can take a cheetah two to three hours to complete a successful hunt? They must first choose the right target (Thompson's Gazelles are a favorite prey species) which is usually a very young animal or an animal showing signs of weakness, and then assume a very low profile so that they are not detected by any members of the herd, or by warthogs who have a keen sense of smell. Unlike lions, their eyes are designed to only hunt during the daylight hours. Cheetah mothers hunt alone, while males sometimes form coalitions as a hunting strategy.
