A vertical portrait of an adult Blue Jay ( Cyanocitta cristata ) perching on a branch at Cromwell Valley Park in Baltimore County, Maryland. Blue Jays are Corvids. They can be overwhelming to smaller birds at bird feeders. They can also imitate the call of the Red-shouldered Hawk, and I’ve been fooled many times! Notice how in this photograph the bold black necklace almost perfectly aligns with the tree branch.
