Dandelions are native to North America. Although considered a weed to those who desire a perfectly green lawn, the dandelion is really a beneficial plant- the leaves have been eaten traditionally in the springtime to aid in cleansing the liver of impurities. Instead of collecting these plants from fields which may have been sprayed with toxic chemicals, many people today purchase these greens at organic grocery stores such as Mom's Organic Market.

Groups like The National Wildlife Federation are encouraging home owners to stop using pesticides on dandelions and other "weeds" in order to help keep our children and wildlife safe. Instead, those who don't like dandelions are being encouraged to dig them out by the roots.
