In Spring a Yellow-Crowned Night Heron ( Nyctanassa violacea) with striking black and white plumage and distinctive yellow crest stands gracefully on a branch with one leg raised, as if in a yoga pose. Its vivid orange eyes add a touch of intensity against the dark, blurred background of foliage. Photographed at the Jones Falls in Baltimore, Maryland.
