Artist's Description

Center Stage, an original Alaska bird and bear photograph by Chris Scroggins.
A seagull stands with outstretched wings in front of a giant Alaska grizzly bear, commanding the center of attention.
Gulls have an interesting relationship with the coastal brown bears of Alaska; they lack a sharp hook on the end of their beaks and cannot tear open the flesh of fish and so they follow the bears on the beach, hoping the bears will tolerate sharing tasty morsels. Sometimes the bears chase the gulls, though they don't expend too much energy on this activity. It can be challenging to get an unobstructed view of the bears when a flock of gulls is on stand by. I like to think of this image as the ultimate animal photo-bomb; when life hands you lemons, make lemonade!
