Description
I used to do old masters reproduction art, and although I rarely ever do them now, I still have scans of works I did. This one was Vermeer's Girl with the Pearl Earring. I had always loved the work, but to post it as it was seems futile as I am growing in my art, and yet now and then I love to create new works from old. I decided to use my scan of my own oil portrait dedication to Vermeer, whom no one could better, and make something fresh, alive and more modern, so I combined an Autumn season background to frame her face, so slighly overlapping in places. The Autumn scene is a watercolor, and everyone knows one cannot mix oil and water, so I digitally combined the two with a fair amount of airbrushing, which was at times appearing to be an impossible task, but I like her! She's fresh, modern, and in a scene which would really suite a modern home or business with a classicly traditional appearance.
Please Note : I have paid for rights to use these old images for reference - or sale as they are if I so wish, but they are too small for that, and I have never done that, and never will. My full attribution still goes to Vermeer. I hope he wouldn't mind his lady being placed in the Autumn.

Zeanna, I like her too! Sometimes I'm wary of re-interpretations of great masters' work, but I think this would surely delight Vermeer himself. She is so "real" with shining eyes and lovely colours and so sensitively portrayed. Very beautiful indeed.v/f

Jane, I understand where you are coming from, and to a degree I agree about re-interpretations. For me, it was once a dream to get into art restoration, but that chance passed when I went for a different degree. However, the love I have for the Old Masters is a great inspiration for me. Hence my reasons for bringing them back to life as true dedications from my heart. :)
