There is a very nice park near my home in Gilbert, Arizona. Freestone Park has a beautiful lake with flowing waterfalls and many wonderful birds seem to appreciate the setting as much as I do.
On a recent walk I saw many herons, also called egrets, I believe. Some stood in the water. Others took in the view from the large rocks which formed the falls.
I took several pictures for possible future paintings. A soft breeze was blowing and I looked up at the rustling palm trees and was surprised to see one of the large white birds perched on a palm frond high above the lake. I don't know why that should surprise me, obviously they do fly. I just haven't seen many in the trees.
I took some photos of the egret in the tree and returned home.
When I looked at that photo I was moved in a way which is difficult to explain. For some reason I saw the image as one of hope. This bird had chosen to rise above the scene below and perhaps was enjoying a degree of peace.
I envied his clear-eyed perspective. Maybe that comes from finding the quiet space.
