Vertical, small format photograph of a beautiful Blue-Gray gnatcatcher ( Polioptila cerulean) perched on a branch, looking to the right.The bird’s white eye ring is clearly visible while the wings are tucked neatly to the sides. The background consists of wild plants in shades of pale, minty green. These birds breed in Maryland. Cornell’s All About Birds resource describes these birds as “pugnacious”; willing to fight fearlessly to defend their territory. They move quickly to capture small insects for food. The males help build the nest and feed the hatchlings.
